PM Session - Big Wide-Mouthed Frog

Happy Tuesday! Today's story was all about a big, wide-mouthed frog. We read two different versions of the story and compared/contrasted the two versions. One version was a pop-up story that the children loved! In the stories, a frog meets various animals and asks them what they like to eat. This continues until the frog meets an animal that likes to eat frogs! Ask your child if the frog gets eaten at the end of the story!

Then we visited centers. Ask your child which center he/she visited today.

The first center made a frog song prop to go with a song we learned yesterday. They had to cut out the frog and then color a strip of different bugs a frog may eat. See if your child can sing the song to you at home! (The words to the song are in the weekly newsletter that was sent home yesterday.)

The second center listened to the story Jump, Frog, Jump! and then practiced hopping like a frog! Children recorded the number lily pad that they landed on. Afterwards, they analyzed their data to determine which number they landed on the most.

The third center reviewed letters while playing lily pad letter memory. Children took turns flipping over cards and identifying the letters, sounds, and words that begin with that letter. If the cards matched, they kept them and took another turn. We practiced matching uppercase letters with lowercase letters.

Then we enjoyed playing in the classroom. Some children also chose to make frog projects during playtime.

After snack, we read the story The Icky Sticky Frog and spent some time talking about how a frog catches bugs to eat.

We also completed a big wide-mouthed frog journal. The journal page had a picture of a frog asking the children what they like to eat, just like in our story today. Children drew a picture of their favorite food and then helped write what their favorite food is.

The children have also been enjoying spending some time browsing through the frog and pond books in our classroom reading center.

Please remember to return the letter mystery bags tomorrow. We will spend time both tomorrow and Thursday sharing our mystery bags. The children are excited!

Have a great evening! :)
