Little Quack

Happy Monday! Today we continued with our pond theme and began focusing on ducks. Our story was titled Little Quack. This was a special story because the children each got to use manipulatives to help with the story. Each child was given a pond and 5 ducklings. As they listened to the story, they added a duckling to the pond and helped count how many ducklings were in the pond and how many were still in the nest. They enjoyed helping with this story!

We also learned the song "Five Little Ducks."

Today's project was to make a duck counting book. See if your child can read the story to you at home. Have your child practice pointing to each word as he/she says it. This is a skill that your child will be assessed on soon so I encourage you to also practice at home!

We also enjoyed playing in the classroom. In the dramatic play center, we opened an "All About Eggs Diner" where children can order all different types of eggs - boiled, scrambled, omelette, etc. In this diner, the waitresses/waiters could dress up as the Easter bunny and wear bunny ears to deliver the food to the customers. The children also enjoyed hunting for colored eggs in the dramatic play center and placing them in a matching color basket.

In the morning session, we celebrated Portia's birthday. Happy Birthday, Portia! Thank you for the special treats! :)

At closing circle, we learned all about the letter Yy. Our feely phonic friend is yellow y. See what words your child can name at home that start with the letter Yy.

We also made our letter Yy alphabet book page by gluing yellow yarn onto the Yy.

Another story that we read today was Do Like a Duck Does!, which is a silly story about a fox that pretends to be a duck so that he can eat the ducklings. However, the mama duck suspects that he is not a duck and has him complete all sorts of undesirable duck activities, such as eating bugs and worms and swimming. In the end, it is the mama duck who has outfoxed the fox!

Have a great evening! :)
