Happy Tuesday! It was great to see everyone's smiling faces after the long winter break!
Since everyone has so much to share about their winter break, this week we will complete a journal about our favorite Christmas gift during sign-in. This allows me time to connect and talk with each child individually as we go over their journal page.
Today we began our "Animals in Winter" unit that will last the entire month. This week we will focus on how people adapt for winter by putting on winter clothing! Today's story was all about getting dressed for winter! It was a silly story because Froggy kept forgetting different winter clothing items to put on. Finally, he got tired from dressing and undressing repeatedly, that he finally gave up and went to bed. We talked about how frogs hibernate in winter because they don't have warm clothes to put on to stay awake all winter. The 4K students are so smart! See if your child can tell you what hibernate and migrate means.
We sorted different clothing on the SMART Board by whether or not they should be worn in winter.
Today we made a winter clothes colors booklet. See if your child can read it to you tonight! We have been working hard on those concepts of print, especially pointing to each word as we read.
During playtime, some children chose to make a person in a jacket project. Others chose to find mitten matches in the sensory table. We had a great time playing with our favorite classroom toys since we have had such a long break from them!
We celebrated Kylee's birthday today in the morning session. Happy Birthday, Kylee! Thank you for the special treats! :)
At closing circle, the children were introduced to the counting jar. Each child will get one turn to take it home and fill with an item of their choice. When the counting jar comes home with your child, please make sure to return it the very next school day so that we can make sure that every child gets a turn! Thank you for your help!
The letter Mm was also introduced today. We met our feely phonic friend, mountain m.
We also read some books about the letter Mm and practiced making the /m/ sound.
We also made our letter Mm alphabet book page - mitten Mm. Some children even chose to make mitten patterns on their Mm page.
Just a friendly reminder that if there happens to be a two hour delay, there will be no morning session of 4K. However, the afternoon session will still be held.
Have a great evening! :)
