Today's story was titled The Penguin Who Wanted to Fly. In the story, a penguin wants to fly so he tries different things, but none of them work. At the end of the story, the penguin realizes that swimming is a little like flying, but under the water instead of in the sky. We learned today that penguins are a special type of bird that cannot fly.
Then we visited centers. Ask your child which center he/she visited today.
The first center listened to the story Penguins 123 and practiced counting the penguins on each page in the story. Then they went fishing for number fish to feed to a penguin.
The second center reviewed shapes while making a shape penguin and then stamped animals on the letter Aa for our alphabet books.
The third center listened to the story Penguins ABC and then practiced matching uppercase and lowercase fish to feed to a penguin. Afterwards, the children worked on the letter Pp and sorted penguins by whether or not they had a Pp on their bellies.
Then we played. The sensory table and painting at the easel were in high demand again.
Then we went to the gym and used the scooters! We pretended we were penguins swimming in the ocean. Each child had to lay on his/her belly on the scooter and use their strong arms as flippers to pull them through the "ocean" to catch letter fish for Miss McCabe. It was quite the work-out, but a lot of fun!
Tomorrow students in the morning session may wear their pajamas to school! We will have our pajama, pizza, and gym day for earning 5 Class BEAK awards.
Have a great evening!
