To start off the day, we made our own teddy bear headbands to wear.
All week we have been learning the nursery rhyme of "Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear." Today we had our teddy bears help act out the nursery rhyme. Our teddy bears had to turn around, touch the ground, climb the stairs, and so much more!
Our story today was Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?, which is always a favorite! We read the story a couple times and even had our teddy bears help us sing the song to go with the story!
Of course, each child got a turn to introduce his/her teddy bear to the class. Some of the things we heard were the names of our teddy bears, where we got them from, what each of us does with our teddy bear (such as sleep with it), and why our teddy bears are special!
Our project today was to make our own large bear. On the bear's belly was a recording sheet. On that sheet, we had to draw a picture of what our teddy bear looks like. We also recorded some facts about our bear, such as its name. The favorite part of the project was measuring how many unifix cubes tall our teddy bears were and writing that number on the recording sheet.
We enjoyed playing with our teddy bears during playtime. They were a part of our everyday play. Some children read to their bears. Others fed them in home living. Yet others tried weighing them in the sensory table. We even built block houses for our bears! Some children even made crowns for their bears to wear.
Measuring with the cubes was so much fun that several children also chose to extend it into their play! They enjoyed measuring how many cubes tall each child is! This is great because we will be doing some more nonstandard measurement next week!
For snack, we had a teddy bear picnic! Since it was a special snack, we had juice. We tasted teddy grahams of different flavors for snack. The flavors we tasted were honey, chocolate chip, and chocolate. Yum!
After snack, we graphed which flavor teddy graham was our favorite on the SMART Board. Chocolate was the winner in both classes!
Then we went to the gym to play a game called "Nap or Flap?," which is a little like Red Light, Green Light. However, when the caller said "nap," we all had to freeze and pretend to sleep. When the caller said "flap," we pretended to fly like birds to get to the caller. It was a lot of fun!
We also had some free play in the gym. Some children enjoyed tossing their bears or playing catch with them. Others played "Duck, Duck, Goose" with their teddy bears.
The afternoon session was unable to go to the gym today. Hopefully we will make it there soon! Instead we had just enough time to read a short story.
Remember that book orders are due tomorrow! We also will have book check-out tomorrow.
Have a great evening! :)
