Happy Wednesday! Today's story was Tacky the Penguin, which is a story about a silly penguin. Tacky is a penguin that does not act like other penguins. He doesn't march nicely in a row, dive gracefully, or sing beautiful songs. Instead, he marches to his own beat, loves to do bellyflops, and sings songs like "How Many Toes Does a Fish Have?" The other penguins are embarrassed by him until one day some hunters come looking for penguins. Tacky saves the day with his unusual antics. We laughed a lot while reading this story!
Today was a Tacky the Penguin sort of day in the morning session with our pajama day, combined with a pizza and gym party!
The children remembered that the largest penguin is an Emperor penguin. We learned that they can be as tall as 4 feet. Miss McCabe just happened to have an Emperor penguin that is exactly 4 feet tall! We measured ourselves to see if we were shorter, taller, or the same height as the Emperor penguin. Most of our friends were shorter than an Emperor penguin. The children were surprised by how tall an Emperor penguin really is!
Then we visited centers. Ask your child which center he/she visited today.
The first center read a penguin counting book and then went fishing for number fish to feed to a penguin.
The second center made a shape penguin and stamped animals onto the letter Aa for our alphabet books.
The third center read a penguin alphabet book, matched uppercase and lowercase letter fish to feed to a penguin, and sorted penguins by whether or not they had a Pp on their bellies.
Then we played.
The morning session enjoyed pizza for snack in celebration of their earning of 5 Class BEAK awards.
After snack, the morning session had some free play time in the gym. They could play with the gym equipment, such as scooters, balls, and hula hoops. It was a lot of fun!
The afternoon session did the counting jar.
The afternoon session also listened to the story Polar Opposites, which helped us realize that polar bears and penguins do not live together. They actually live on the opposite sides of the world! The book also helped us learn about what opposite means.
Tomorrow is book check-out!
Have a great evening! :)
