Happy Tuesday! Today's story was a version of the nursery rhyme we have been focusing on this month (An Old Woman Who Lived in a Shoe). The story was titled If The Shoe Fits. In the story, the old woman decides to move her family to a new home. She tries all different homes, but none of them worked for different reasons. Finally, she realizes that her home in a shoe was the perfect home for her and her family. The children were excited to encounter a variety of nursery rhyme characters in this story.
Next we reviewed "Mat Man." Our special helper came up and modeled how to draw Mat Man on the dry erase board. The children LOVE Mat Man! Several children practiced building Mat Man during playtime today.
We played a color house game. The children enjoyed trying to figure out which color house the mouse was hiding under. They enjoyed it so much that several children asked to play it on the SMART Board during playtime. Others played the paper version on our carpet during playtime.
Then we visited centers. Ask your child which center he/she visited today.
The first center drew a detailed picture of their families. Then they helped label each family member and complete the sentence: This is my family.
The second center glued shapes on the letter Hh and drew details to create a letter Hh house for their alphabet books.
The third center completed some fine motor assessments (cutting, name writing, drawing a self-portrait, and coloring).
We enjoyed playing in the classroom. Being a construction worker was a popular playtime role. Also washing dishes in the sensory table was a crowded area. They also enjoyed building Mat Man and playing the color house game today.
After snack, we talked about ways to handle our anger if someone does something we don't like. We talked about appropriate ways to express our emotions. Using our words is always better than using our hands! We read the story If You're Angry and You Know It and learned some strategies for dealing with our emotions. We learned that we can walk away, take a deep breath, tell a teacher, or use our words to say, "Please stop. I don't like it when you..." We will be practicing using some of these strategies at school.
Then we practiced some of our songs for the 4K Holiday Program.
In the morning session, we also shared a few more of our turkey family projects. Remember that our turkey family projects are due tomorrow!
Have a great evening! :)
