Zookeepers

Happy Monday! Today there was a substitute teacher in the classroom while I administered the PALS assessment to each child individually.

We started a unit on the zoo today. Each day, there will be a sign from Zookeeper Bob to help us learn a new interesting fact about the zoo and zoo animals. Today's sign taught us that zookeepers have many different jobs. Ask your child to tell you one of the jobs of a zookeeper at home tonight.

Today we learned a new zoo poem titled "1, 2, Zoo!" and we used this poem to work on concepts of print. Each child got a booklet with the words to the poem. We practiced pointing to each word as we recited the poem.

Our story was Sam Who Never Forgets. In the story, Sam is busy feeding the animals, but one animal becomes worried that Sam will forget to feed him. Of course, a zookeeper would not forget to feed one of his animals! We talked about the foods that different animals eat to stay healthy.

Today's project was making a GIANT zookeeper. We cut out the parts of a zookeeper and glued them together. These projects were so big that we had to spread out and work on the floor too! Inside the zookeeper shirt, we drew a picture of our favorite zoo animal and helped fill in the writing prompt.

We enjoyed playing in the classroom. Children enjoyed pretending to be zookeepers and animals in our dramatic play area. We also worked on some secret projects during playtime today.

After snack, we learned about the letter Zz and met our new feely phonic friend, zebra z.

With the remaining time before recess, we listened to the story Z is for Zookeeper to learn more about the many different jobs a zookeeper has.

There will be a substitute teacher in the classroom again tomorrow while I administer the PALS assessment. Please make sure that your child gets plenty of rest tonight so that your child can do his/her best on the PALS assessment tomorrow.

Have a great evening! :)
