Happy Tuesday! Today there was a substitute teacher in the classroom due to assessments. Sorry that there aren't many pictures from today. Tomorrow Miss McCabe will finally be back in the classroom so there will be more pictures! :)
Zookeeper Bob taught us a new word today - marsupial. See if your child can tell you what a marsupial is! (It is an animal that has a pouch for its babies.) Can your child name an animal that is a marsupial? (Some examples are kangaroos, koalas, and wombats.)
Today's story was about a kangaroo that did not have any pockets. She looked all over for a pocket to hold her baby. Ask your child to tell you what happened in the story!
We also sorted pictures by beginning sound into different letter pockets.
Today we visited centers. Ask your child which center he/she visited today.
The first center measured out a piece of yarn that was 30 feet long, which is about how far an adult kangaroo can hop. Children counted how many hops it took them to get to the end of the yarn and recorded their number. Then they made a kicking Kk page for their alphabet books.
The second center made a baby animal flap booklet. Children listened to the clues to figure out which baby animal to glue under each flap. On the last page, they drew their own baby zoo animal and had to come up with their own clues. Then they tried to trick their friends. See if your child can trick you when his/her booklet comes home!
The third center completed a May coloring assessment. Then they played memory where they matched mom animals to their babies.
We enjoyed playing and working on developing our social skills.
At closing circle, children had to hop around the room like a kangaroo to find joeys with numbers on them. They colored the joeys the corresponding color. Then they cut out the joeys and sequenced them in numerical order.
Please remember to return field trip permission slips and money tomorrow! Please include money for both your child and any chaperones that will be attending. Thank you!
Have a great evening! :)
