Happy Monday! Today there was a substitute teacher in the classroom.
Our focus was on learning about baby zoo animals. Zookeeper Bob helped us learn that the zoo has a special place for baby zoo animals - the nursery.
Today's story was a silly one titled Alligator Baby. In the story, a mom brings home different zoo animal babies instead of her own baby. This caused a lot of chaos! Ask your child to tell you about the story.
We spent some time talking about the names of baby animals. For example, a baby lion is called a cub. A baby kangaroo is called a joey. A baby giraffe is called a calf.
Children visited centers today. Ask your child which center he/she visited.
At the first center, children learned that adult kangaroos can hop between 30-40 feet. A large 30 foot piece of yarn was placed on the floor. Children pretended they were joeys and counted how many hops it took them to jump as far as an adult kangaroo. Then they wrote the number on a recording sheet. Afterwards, children at this center made a kicking Kk page for their alphabet books.
The second center made a baby animal flap book. Each page had a riddle with clues about the baby animal. Children had to figure out which baby animal to place under each flap. On the last page, children drew their own baby zoo animal and helped provide clues. Then they tried to trick their friends and teachers to see if anybody could guess their baby animal. Have your child read his/her riddle book to you at home. Talk about the names of the different baby animals.
The third center played a memory game. Children at this center took turns trying to match mom and baby animals. We also completed a May coloring assessment for our portfolios.
Then we played in the classroom.
After snack, we learned about the letter Kk. This is our last letter and it means we are almost ready for Kindergarten! Our feely phonic friend is kicking k.
Tomorrow will be the last day for assessments. Please make sure your child gets plenty of rest so that your child can do his/her best work!
Have a great evening! :)
