The Tiny Seed

Happy Monday! Today we learned about flowers! Our story was titled The Tiny Seed. In the story, the wind blows seeds all over. Some land in places where they cannot grow because it is too wet, too dry, or too cold. However, one little seed lands in the perfect place. We follow along as the roots grow, a stem starts to pop up, leaves begin to grow on the stem, and a flower begins to bloom from the bud.

We spent some time talking about the parts of a plant and even learned a song to the tune of "Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes" to help us remember the parts of a plant.

The children voted on the type of seeds they would like to plant. We got to look at the seeds and plant them in the Root-vue Farm. Hopefully we will get to see the roots growing! The morning session voted to plant carrot seeds. The afternoon session voted to plant peas. We talked about how long they may take to grow. Some children thought that they would be all grown by tomorrow. We shall see! :)

Then we visited centers. Ask your child which center he/she visited today.

The first center made name flowers. We cut out the parts of a flower and glued them together. The children made a pattern with their flower petals. In the middle of the flower, we wrote our first names. Then we practiced writing the letters in our last names on the petals of the flowers.

The second center used watercolor paints to paint rainbow Rr's for their alphabet books. After finishing, children went on a flower letter hunt around the classroom.

The third center cut out different shapes and glued them together to make a shape flower. Then they counted how many of each shape they used and practiced writing the numbers on a recording sheet.

After centers, we played. The children were excited to explore the flower shop in the dramatic play area. Several children also chose to paint flowers at the easel. They also enjoyed hunting for caterpillars and butterflies hiding in flowers in the sensory table.

At closing circle, we spent time learning all about the letter Rr. We met our feely phonic friend, ruby red r. See what words your child can tell you that start with Rr at home tonight!

Have a great evening! :)
