Happy Monday! Today we talked about the signs of spring. We talked about what we are noticing now that winter has gone. We learned a song about the signs of spring. See if your child can tell you some of the signs of spring!
Our story was Wake Up, It's Spring!, which is a story about waking up from the long winter because spring is finally here. It begins with the sun warming the ground and waking up seeds so they can sprout, as well as waking up many different animals.
Then we visited centers. Ask your child which center he/she visited today.
The first center played a weather beginning sounds game. In this game, children rolled a die and moved the corresponding number of spaces along the rainbow path. Upon landing on a space, children identified the color and then drew a card. The card had three pictures. Children had to decide which two pictures begin with the same sound and identify the letter that those pictures begin with.
The second center did wind experiments. They took different objects and tried blowing them across the table. If they could blow the object, they circled the smile face. If they could not blow the object, they circled the sad face.
The third center played a number game. We learned about the expression "It's raining cats and dogs" and talked about what that expression means. Then each child got a recording sheet with cats, dogs, and other animals on it. The sheet was programmed with a set of numbers each child needs more practice with. Children rolled the die, identified the letter, and stamped the corresponding animal with a "raindrop" using a bingo blotter. Play continued until one row of animals was completely covered. When your child brings home his/her recording sheet, take time to review the numbers on it with your child.
During playtime, several children enjoyed playing in the weather station dramatic play center. Building with pipes and pouring water in the sensory table was also a big hit in our classroom!
In the morning session, we celebrated Alaynna's birthday. Thank you for the treats! :)
At closing circle, we learned all about the letter Uu by reading some stories and meeting our new feely phonic friend, umbrella u.
We also played a "What's Missing?" game in the morning session.
Miss McCabe also shared some exciting news with everyone! Over the weekend, she attended an early childhood conference and met Eric Litwin, the author of the first four Pete the Cat books. The children were excited to see some pictures and to discover that he signed some Pete the Cat books for us! We celebrated by reading one of his newest books, Bedtime at the Nut House.
The afternoon class also won their fifth class BEAK award! Tomorrow we will make a list of ideas for a party and vote on them. Watch your child's folder for a note explaining the date of the party in the near future.
Have a great evening! :)
