Rainy Days

Happy Thursday! Today during sign-in, we completed a journal about what we like to do on rainy days.

Our story was The Rain Came Down. In the story, everyone is in a bad mood because it is rainy outside. However, when the rain shines and a rainbow appears, everyone is in a much better mood. We talked about what makes us grumpy. We also talked about whether or not we like rainy days. Some children liked them because it means they can jump in puddles or watch a movie. Others did not like rainy days because they have to stay inside the house.

We also learned the song "Rainy" to the tune of "Bingo." This is a great song for reviewing a few of our letters. Did you know we only have 3 more letters left to learn?!

Today we made a rain position booklet. Each child had to help read the story and draw the rain in the correct places according to the words on each page in the story. On the last page, we drew a picture of us under an umbrella. We also practiced pointing to each word with one-to-one correspondence. When your child brings the booklet home, please spend time reading it with him/her and practice pointing to the words with one-to-one correspondence. This is a skill they will be assessed on soon!

We also enjoyed playing in the classroom and working on our social skills.

At closing circle, we got out the instruments and listened to the different sounds each instrument made. We tried to make it sound like a thunderstorm in our classroom using the instruments! We also worked on self-regulation while using the instruments to a song. When the music stopped, we needed to also stop playing our instruments and wait until the music starts again. It was a lot of fun.

We also did a quick story together.

The afternoon session got to have a movie and popcorn party to celebrate earning 5 class BEAK awards. We watched part of a movie while enjoying popcorn. Yum!

Enjoy the weekend! :)
