Happy Tuesday! Today we learned all about spiders! Our story today was a nonfiction story about spiders. We learned all sorts of interesting facts about spiders. See if your child can tell you one interesting fact he/she learned about spiders today!
We also learned about the difference between an insect and spider. Did you know that spiders have 8 legs while insects have 6 legs? Spiders have two body parts while insects have 3 body parts. Insects also have antennae while spiders do not. We sorted pictures of different bugs by whether they were a spider or an insect.
Next we visited centers. Ask your child which center he/she visited today.
The first center made sparkly silver spider web names and went on a spider letter and number hunt around the room.
The second center made a spider counting booklet and a spider Ss alphabet book page.
The third center sorted letter spiders with different fonts onto the corresponding letter web. Then this center did a color the room activity either focusing on letter Ss or the number 5.
After centers, we played in the classroom. The listening center was a popular choice today! It is great that the children have also been choosing to play board games at playtime. Board games are wonderful for social skills development and turn taking.
At snack time, we applied our knowledge of spiders to build our own spider snack. We made sure our spiders had two body parts and eight legs, just like a real spider!
After eating our delicious snack, we shared our letter Ss mystery bags. There were some tricky items in the bags, such as soup, streamers, and Santa!
We also learned the song "Spider on the Floor." Miss McCabe gave everyone a spider ring to use to act out the song. We had to listen carefully and place our spiders on the correct body part. It was a lot of fun!
In the morning session, we also learned another new song that begins with Ss - "The Spooky Walk." I believe that this is our new favorite song as the children asked to sing it over and over again! :)
Tomorrow we will have a special visit from Altrusa. Your child will come home with a book given to him/her from Altrusa. This is a special book that your child gets to keep! We will have a visit from Altrusa five times this year (October, November, February, March, and April).
Have a wonderful evening! :)
