Happy Tuesday! Today we listened to the story Firebears: The Rescue Team. There were a lot of rhyming words in the story! We also talked about different roles a firefighter has to help us in our imaginative play. Did you know firefighters work when they are at the Fire Station? They cook meals, wash dishes, wash the fire trucks, and even sleep at the Fire Station!
We reviewed the new letter that we learned yesterday - Ff. The children did a great job of brainstorming some words that start with our new letter.
In the morning, we learned some vocabulary words for the clothing a firefighter wears. Then we played a "What's Missing? Firefighter" game to practice our new vocabulary words.
Today we also talked about items that are safe to play with and items that are only for adults because we could get hurt. We sorted those items on the SMART Board into the categories of safe and not safe.
Then we visited centers. Ask your child which center he/she visited today.
The first center made a firefighter rhyming booklet. Ask your child to read the booklet with you when it comes home!
The second center listened to the story Alphabet Mystery and found the letter Ff's in the book. Then they mixed red and yellow glitter paint to create orange flames before sticking on a Ff and firetruck for their alphabet books.
The third center worked on social skills, counting, and color recognition while playing a fire hydrant board game. Their job was to race to put out the fire!
Afterwards we played while working on our social skills. The Fire Station is still in high demand!
During snack we made a special firefighter ladder snack. It tasted delicious!
At closing circle the morning session listened to the story Firehouse! to learn more about the roles of a firefighter. The afternoon session listened to Fire Truck! instead.
Our nursery rhyme this week is "Jack Be Nimble." We practiced saying the rhyme a lot today, but added a little twist. Instead of using Jack, we changed it to use our names! When we saw our name on the SMART Board, we got to try to jump over the candlestick! Of course, we talked about how we should never try to jump over a real candle that is lit! Check your child's folder for some activities to go along with this nursery rhyme!
Have a fantastic evening! :)
