Fall Forest Walk

Happy Monday! Today was another exciting day in 4K!

Our story today was We're Going on a Leaf Hunt. We talked about the different shapes (types) and colors of leaves one can find in fall.

The letter Ll was a also introduced today. We read some stories about the letter, learned its sound, and listed some words that begin with Ll. Our feely phonic friend is ladder l. We got to trace over ladder l while making the /l/ sound.

Then we climbed up a ladder, picked a leaf, and laid the leaf in a long line. Each child got the chance to lay by the line of leaves to see which was longer - the child or the line of leaves. We heard a lot of /l/ sounds!

Then it was time to go on our own leaf hunt in the school forest! While on our walk, the children were able to collect some samples of leaves that were different shapes, sizes, and colors. We also looked for other signs of fall, such as squirrels collecting nuts to store for winter and birds flying south. The children were also excited about all the toads and pinecones we found!

In the afternoon, Mr. Toneys was able to come along on the walk. He showed us all different neat things, such as mushrooms, lichen, walnuts, crab apples, and ferns. We even saw a snake! It was pretty cool! Mr. Toneys caught a baby dragonfly (nymph) in the pond and we got to take a close look at it. We even saw a squirrel nest in a tree. What an adventure! Thank you, Mr. Toneys!

After snack, we learned about the number 4 and made our number 4 crowns. The afternoon session did not have time to do the crowns today.

The morning session also went on a letter Ll hunt around the room.

I am looking forward to meeting with everyone at parent-teacher conferences this week.

Tomorrow the PALS assessments will continue and there will be a substitute teacher in the classroom.

Have a great evening!
