X Marks the Spot!

Ahoy Mateys! Today we had a great time exploring the world of pirates while learning about the letter Xx.

At sign-in, we made our own pirate hats to wear and made sure to put an X on the hats!

The story we read today was a pirate alphabet story titled Shiver Me Letters: A Pirate ABC. We learned some new pirate vocabulary while reading the story.

We also played a "What's Missing? Pirate" game to work on visual memory and vocabulary.

Today's project was making a pirate booklet. Children illustrated their own pictures on each page and helped write the word to label the picture. See if your child can read his/her book to you at home!

Then we played. Children especially enjoyed hunting for buried treasure in the sensory table! We also enjoyed playing in the seafood restaurant and practicing "walking the plank."

Today we celebrated Emmahlynn's birthday in the morning. Happy Birthday, Emmahlynn! Thank you for the special treats!

In the afternoon, we celebrated Sienna's birthday. Thanks for the treats! We hope you had a wonderful birthday!

After snack, we learned about the letter Xx. Since there are not a lot of words that start with Xx, we talked about words that contain Xx, as well as the XOXO symbol meaning hugs and kisses.

Our feely phonic friend is x-ray x.

We marked where we would bury treasure on a map by using the letter X. The letter Xx is a pirate's favorite letter because it shows where the treasure is buried.

In the morning session, we also played a gold counting game on the SMART Board.

Tomorrow we will get to go to the auditorium to watch the fifth graders perform on stage.

Have a great evening! :)
