Our story today was How Do I Love You?, which is a counting book about the many different ways a mom loves her child. We talked about how our families love us, even when we don't always make good choices. We also talked about different ways to show you love someone.
We played a Valentine number squeeze game on the SMART Board. Look in your child's folder for a copy of the game to play together at home. There are different versions so you can choose the one that will work on the sets of numbers your child needs the most work on (1-10, 11-20, or 21-30). The children enjoyed this game so much that they also chose to play it during playtime.
Then we visited centers. Ask your child which center he/she visited today.
The first center used conversation hearts to measure different sized hearts. Then they counted how many hearts tall each heart was and recorded it on a recording sheet.
The second center made a valentine song booklet. Children needed to glue items on each page in the book to match the text. See if your child can read (or sing) the booklet to you at home!
The third center completed some assessments for their portfolios. They did a cutting sample, self-portrait, and a coloring assessment.
Then we played. During playtime, we did a science experiment with candy hearts. Children dropped them in different liquids to see what would happen. Some liquids used were soda, peroxide, water, and vinegar. We also did some painting. We mixed two colors together to make a new color and painted some hearts. Some children mixed red and white to make pink. Others mixed blue and red to make a purple heart.
After snack, we learned about letter Vv in honor of Valentine's Day. Our new feely phonic friend is valentine v.
We even made our own valentine Vv page for our alphabet books. Some children even chose to make a pattern.
Please remember that book orders are due tomorrow. Please also send in your child's valentines as soon as they are ready. We have already begun passing them out. This saves us time so that we can actually enjoy our valentine party on Thursday rather than spending the entire session passing out the cards!
Have a great evening!
