Counting Pennies

Happy Thursday! Today's story was Just Going to the Dentist. We spent a lot of time talking about how the dentist helps us keep our teeth healthy. We don't need to be scared of the dentist because the dentist is there to help us.

The children are excited about losing their baby teeth to get grown-up teeth. We learned that we have our baby teeth to practice how to take care of our teeth because when we get our grown-up teeth, we won't get any more new ones so we have to take good care of them! The children are especially excited about having some visits from the tooth fairy! Today we practiced counting pennies left by the tooth fairy. This is a skill the children will be assessed on in Kindergarten right at the start of the school year. They will need to be able to correctly count objects and circle the corresponding number. We practiced doing this on the SMART Board. As a matter of fact, this activity was so popular that the children were asking to play it at playtime today!

We finished our center rotations today. Ask your child which center he/she visited today.

The first center played a tooth toss game to work on letters, numbers, and shapes. Then we practiced brushing a tooth using a toothbrush and toothpaste (paint).

The second center made a queen Qq alphabet book page.

The third center listened to the story Big Shark's Lost Tooth. Then each child completed a shark tooth counting activity.

Then we played. The Queen of Hearts valentine shop has been especially popular. The children have enjoyed writing valentine notes to give to their friends. We also enjoyed playing on the SMART Board today. First the children did the penny counting activity. Later they transitioned to drawing and writing on the SMART Board. The afternoon session enjoyed playing a fly swatter game where they had to race to find numbers on teeth.

In the morning session, we did a counting activity around the room to practice correctly counting objects to 11.

We also did the counting jar together in both classes. Both sessions counted tootsie rolls today.

Have a good weekend!
