Happy Tuesday! Today's story was titled Over in the Ocean. This story introduced us to many different animals that live in the ocean. We learned that the ocean is big and has salty water. The children were excited to discover that there were hidden numbers on each page in the story.
Then we visited centers. Ask your child which center he/she visited today.
The first center complete an ocean journal. Each child used crayons to draw their favorite ocean animal. We also talked about adding details like seaweed to our pictures. Each child helped to complete the sentence: My favorite ocean animal is... because... Then we used watercolor paints to paint the ocean waves over our sea creatures.
The second center made an orange octopus Oo alphabet book page. We had to cut out the letter Oo and count 8 tentacles for each Oo. The children were excited to curl the tentacles around a pencil to help them stay curled. Then we added details like eyes.
The third center made an ocean animal counting booklet. Children had to read the words, trace over the number, and use ocean animal stamps to stamp the correct number on each page. See if your child can read his/her booklet to you when it comes home!
We enjoyed playing in the classroom today. Several children chose to make stingrays to hang up on our large ocean mural.
At closing circle, we played an ocean animal letter game. There was a lot of laughter as we played. This game was similar to "Duck, Duck, Goose." Each child was given a card with a letter on it. They each got the chance to skip around the circle singing, "(Name) over the ocean, (Name) over the sea, (Name caught a (letter), but you can't catch me!" Then they tapped a friend's head and that classmate had to try to catch them. What fun!
Have a great evening! :)
