Seals on the Bus

Happy Wednesday! Our second day of school was even better than the first! There were a lot of fabulous smiles today in 4K!

Our arrival activity in the morning session was to color a lamb to make a class book to go with the nursery rhyme "Mary Had a Little Lamb." The afternoon session did not get to do this because the lunch routine is taking a large chunk out of our day until we learn our routines better.

The children did a GREAT job of remembering how to sit criss-cross applesauce on the carpet today. We read another silly story titled The Seals on the Bus. The children got excited about making the animal noises for all of the animals that got on the bus! We even learned some new vocabulary, such as a viper is a type of snake!

Our project today was to make a GIANT bus and add the animals to it in the same order as they appeared in the story. We practiced using our buses to sing the song (to the tune of "The Wheels on the Bus") so that we can tell you the story at home tonight! Ask your child to sing "The Seals on the Bus" for you at home using his/her bus song prop.

After our projects were finished, we played in the classroom. There is so much to explore in our classroom!

We made our own animals on the bus snack today. First, we frosted a graham cracker so it was yellow like a bus. Then we added wheels (crackers) and animal crackers before eating. Yum!

After snack, we read the story Mary Had a Little Lamb together. Please spend some time practicing this nursery rhyme with your child at home. Your child will be assessed on his/her nursery rhyme knowledge this year so it will be helpful to reinforce the rhymes at home as they are introduced at school. During parent-teacher conferences in October, I will give you your own nursery rhyme booklets to keep at home along with some activities you can do together to reinforce important early literacy skills while reviewing nursery rhymes.

We did "The Freeze" song again by popular request!

In the morning session, we also read our class book that we made upon arrival. This helped us practice our colors, especially those tricky colors like gray and brown!

The afternoon session learned another new song called "Animal Action." In the song, we got to pretend to be different animals. It was a lot of fun!

We are still looking for a few volunteers to send in supplies for our classroom parties and to sign-up for a month to make playdough - nobody signed up for September! If you are interested, please let me know and I will fill your name in on the sign-up sheet.

Tomorrow will be a fun day filled with one of my favorite book characters - Pete the Cat!

You are also welcome to show your support for the Packers by sending your child to school in Packer apparel or green and gold tomorrow!

Have a great evening! :)
