Earth Is Home to Us

Happy Monday! It was great to see everyone's big smiles today!

During circle time, we learned all about the planet we live on - Earth! We learned that Earth is the only planet with air on it. People need air to breathe. We also learned that Earth has water, which people and animals need to live.

We visited centers today. The children will rotate to one center each day this week. Ask your child which center he/she visited today.

The first center played a color board game. We rolled a color die, identified the color, and moved the corresponding marker one space. It was a race to see which color would reach planet Earth first!

The second center made a suncatcher Earth. They put glue all over the wax paper circle and then put on blue and green tissue paper for the land and water. Finally they painted more glue over the top. These will look beautiful hanging in our classroom windows!

The third center did a solar system project. We learned that a solar system always has certain items, such as a sun, planets, and stars. The children used their "3 star coloring" to color different items one may find in a solar system. Then they used blue or purple glitter paint to paint a large piece of paper before sticking their colored items on their solar system. Each one turned out to be unique!

Then we played in the classroom. During playtime, several children chose to do blob painting to make their very own Earth! Others enjoyed playing in the water in the sensory table. There were planets, stars, and astronauts floating around the water. We were very busy at playtime today!

After snack, we spent some time learning all about the number zero. We read a story about a monster that was sad because he had zero spots. We also learned a song about the number zero.

The children also practiced writing the number zero on the easel.

Then we read another story about Pete the Cat. He kept losing his buttons, until there were zero buttons on his shirt! Pete didn't cry because he still had his belly button! :)

To end the day, we reviewed our colors with "Crazy Color Creatures" before going outside to play. The children are excited that they get to take home their very own "Crazy Color Creatures" booklet. I encourage you to spend some time with your child singing the story each night at home after your child finishes coloring each creature the correct color on each page.

Have a great evening! :)
